Working on an essay re my hypothesis that humans are a vain-glorious species of primate.

Here are some stats which support my hypothesis.

exhibit 1

– The global beauty industry is estimated to be worth $108.41 billion, with skincare alone accounting for 42% of the market.
– American women spend an average of $3,756 per year on beauty products and services.

exhibit 2

The global jewelry market is a massive industry, valued at $353.26 billion dollars in 2023.

Millennials spend around 203 dollars on jewelry every year in the United States, with millennials contributing to 57 percent of all global jewelry spending.
The average American spends around 615 dollars on jewelry annually.
In Hong Kong, each person spends approximately 1,288.40 dollars on jewelry every year, making it the largest jewelry market globally.
Women tend to prefer buying earrings, while men lean towards necklaces.
Married women earning medium salaries and aged between 25-34 years purchase the most jewelry in terms of quantity.

The United Nations and other humanitarian organizations allocate funds for emergency food assistance and famine relief through various programs. For instance, the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) spends around $4-5 billion annually on food assistance programs, which include famine relief.

exhibit 4

UNICEF’s annual spending on famine relief and humanitarian work is substantial, but the exact figure varies from year to year. In 2019, UNICEF’s humanitarian appeal totaled $4.1 billion, with $2 billion actually funded.

For 2021, UNICEF received $2.96 billion in humanitarian funding, which enabled them to provide critical services such as clean water, sanitation, nutrition, education, and child protection to millions of people in need.

UNICEF’s humanitarian work includes a wide range of programs and services, from emergency food and nutrition to education and child protection. Their efforts are focused on supporting vulnerable children and families affected by crises around the world.

exhibit 5

The average American spends around $737 on charity annually, but this figure varies greatly depending on factors like income, age, and generation. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a specific breakdown of average charitable spending by American women. However, it’s worth noting that women are often more generous than men when it comes to charitable giving.

For instance, moms aged 35-44 were the top volunteer group in 2020, and women tend to prefer donating to charities that support children, health, and human services. Additionally, women are more likely to engage in online giving, with 84 percent of millennial women donating to charity.
